The 10 Argentina footballers with the highest price tag
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi may still be one of the best players in the world but he's no longer the most valuable Argentina player plying his trade in the game today.
FootballTransfers' transfer valuations are calculated in collaboration with SciSports, a world-leading football analytics agency that assesses the relative transfer valuations of over 60,000 professional footballers worldwide. SciSports use multiple data points including current and potential ability, contract length, form, age, and other crucial factors.
Despite turning 34 and joining Paris-Saint German in the summer, Messi has now had to step off his perch and move into second place in the list of highest valued footballers from Argentina.
The Copa America winner’s market value has now dropped to €42 million, demonstrating what an incredible player he still is at his age but also that his value is now beginning to fall.
In first place is Lautaro Martinez, who has emerged as one of the best young attackers over the past few years at Inter.
Lautaro played a key role in the Nerazzurri winning their first Scudetto in 11 years last season and signed a new contract with the club to boot. As such his value has risen to €90m.
Next up is Messi and in third place is Atletico Madrid attacker Angel Correa. Able to play in a number of different forward positions, Correa is valued at €38m.
Then in fourth place we Ajax defensive midfielder Lisandro Martinez, valued at €34m.
In fifth is a former Inter striker in Mauro Icardi. The controversial forward has not always found it easy at PSG, but his ability to find the back of the net means he is valued at €33m.
Atletico Madrid newboy Rodrigo De Paul is the sixth highest valued Argentine. The central midfielder lit up the Copa America and was arguably the best player in his position in Serie A last season. He is valued at €29m.
