Vlahovic made 'sensationally wrong' decision rejecting Arsenal for Juventus
Former Inter, Milan, Roma and Real Madrid forward Antonio Cassano believes Dusan Vlahovic has made a "sensationally wrong" decision to join Juventus instead of the likes of Arsenal or Tottenham.
Vlahovic has emerged as one of the most wanted centre-forwards in Europe due to his performances over the last 18 months.
In the 2020/21 Serie A campaign, he scored 21 goals in 34 starts, and he is already on course to beat that tally in 2021/22, as he has scored 17 goals in 21 starts so far.
With his contract ending in 2023, Fiorentina needed to sell Vlahovic either this January or in the summer of 2022 in order to maximise the transfer fee received.
Arsenal were desperate to sign the Serbian, but recent reports have suggested that the player never considered joining the Gunners.
Cassano's comments suggest he is not a great fan of Vlahovic or Juve manager Massimilano Allegri, and believes a move to the Premier League would have been better for the player.
"Juventus will not change with Allegri, neither next year nor in ten years," he said on Christian Vieiri 's Twitch channel, Bobo TV.
"In my opinion, (Vlahovic's decision) is sensationally wrong. For the type of player I think he is, he needed to make an intermediate step to a team like Arsenal, Tottenham, or Sevilla, who signed (Anthony) Martial.
"For me, you know, he has always been a second-tier player."
Why did Vlahovic sign for Juventus?
In a press conference on Friday, Vlahovic detailed some of his reasoning for signing for the Italian giants.
"Juventus represents pride, tradition, family. Juventus are always there until the last minute, they never give up," claimed the Serbian international.
"The team always comes first, I am at the disposal of the coach and my teammates, who I will try to help in the best way possible.
"We always want more, and we want to improve in the future. Today is my birthday, which is really wonderful, a special day for me.
"This is one of the happiest birthdays I’ve experienced so far. I want to make Juventus proud. We will always fight for all goals, as they say, fino alle fine!"
