Juventus finally find a club for former Arsenal ace Ramsey
Juventus have finally succeeded in offloading Aaron Ramsey in the closing hours of the January transfer window.
Signed from Arsenal in 2019 amid a great deal of hype, Ramsey has proven to be a flop in Turin – and an expensive one at that.
As one of the highest earners on the club’s books, it was costing Juventus an extortionate amount of money to have him sitting in the bench or in the stands.
With the club’s wage budget tight, they have succeeded in finding a club for Ramsey, who had turned down several offers in the Premier League.
Instead, he has turned to Rangers, the Scottish Premiership leaders, as the club where he will play the remainder of the season on loan.
Why Ramsey has joined Rangers
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I am really pleased to be joining a club like Rangers, where there is so much to look forward to between now and May.
“I had a number of offers on the table, but none matched the magnitude of this club, with European football and the chance to play in front of 50,000 fans every other week.
“I have had some fantastic conversations with the manager and sporting director Ross Wilson, and I’m really looking forward to working with both of them, and to meeting the supporters.”
Meanwhile, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst was delighted to capture the Wales international star.
“I’m absolutely delighted that we have been able to add a player of Aaron’s quality, experience and leadership to our squad,” he explained.
“As soon as it was mooted as a possibility, I was really keen for us to try everything to get the deal done, and huge credit must go to Ross and to the Board for the work they have put in on this.
“I look forward to welcoming Aaron to the training centre tomorrow.”
Ramsey could make his Rangers debut in Wednesday’s Old Firm meeting against Celtic.
