‘Mendy and Theo the two best left-backs in the world’
Udinese starlet Destiny Udogie has discussed the transfer interest in him from Juventus, while naming Ferland Mendy and Theo Hernandez as the best left-backs in the world.
Udogie has been one of the emerging stars in Serie A this season, the 19-year-old breaking into the Udinese team and producing some impressive performances at left-back.
The Italy Under-21 international has scored two goals and provided one assist, but has stood out for his pacy and powerful runs down the flank.
He has subsequently been linked with a summer move to Juventus, Napoli and Atalanta.
Destiny Udogie's transfer future
“But in the future, I don’t know. The Champions League is a big dream and I hope to reach it.
“You feel good hearing this interest [from these big clubs] because you know you are doing well.
“But I am focused on Udinese so I don’t listen too much on these voices.”
Best left backs in the world
Udogie revealed that growing up the left-back he modelled his game on was Real Madrid veteran Marcelo.
The full-back also revealed his admiration for Marcelo’s Madrid teammate Mendy and Milan star Theo Hernandez.
“I watched a lot of Marcelo of Real Madrid growing up, he was one of the best left backs in the world so I loved to watch him,” Udogie continued.
“In my league I enjoy Theo Hernandez, so I look at him.
“The best left-back in the world? One of Ferland Mendy or Theo Hernandez.”
How good is Nahuel Molina?
Udogie is not the only Udinese full-back impressing this season as on the right-hand side Nahuel Molina has been brilliant.
The Argentina star is the highest scoring right-back in Europe’s big five leagues with six goals and has also been linked with a €25m summer move to Juventus, with Atletico Madrid also interested.
“Molina is one of the best right backs anywhere in his position,” Udogie said.
“He has crazy numbers. He is very good attacking, very good in finishing. He has a very good cross, I think he will go very far.”
