Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has likened Roma striker Tammy Abraham to Emmanuel Adebayor and believes he would be the “perfect” signing for the London club this summer.

The England international made the move to Italy this summer after a difficult few seasons at Chelsea and has been nothing short of remarkable for Jose Mourinho’s Roma side.

In 41 games across all competitions, the young striker has already bagged 23 goals and four assists, alerting a number of Premier League clubs to his possible signature this summer.

As such, Petit believes the former Chelsea youth player would not only be a handy player for Mikel Arteta to call upon, but could prove to be the perfect signing this summer for Arsenal.

“Abraham reminds me of Emmanuel Adebayor, his physical presence in the penalty area,” he told Genting Casino.

“Abraham’s reaction when he arrived at Roma has been brilliant because he’s scored 15 [league] goals and has so many assists, so he’s enjoying his football there.

“He went to Italy with the feeling of revenge for what happened at Chelsea. He’s not stupid, he will see what’s going on with the strikers at Chelsea with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, they’re struggling.

“So maybe he’s thinking, ‘it would have been worse for me if I had stayed at Chelsea’. He made the right decision and he’s having a great season with Roma.

“I’m pretty sure he wants to come back to England and he would fit perfectly at Arsenal because he’s a different player to Alexandre Lacazette with a different style, different physique and he’s a goalscorer.

“Even at Chelsea he was scoring goals, not as many as he wanted, but he’s 24 years old so he still has a lot to learn.”

Could Arsenal sign Abraham this summer?

While it may seem a little peculiar for Arsenal to sign a player that couldn’t get a game for Chelsea, there are a number of reasons why the club should make a move for Abraham.

As Petit points out, Arteta’s side are in desperate need of a new no.9 when Alexandre Lacazette leaves the club this summer.

What’s more, despite failing to land a big striker in January, Arsenal clearly have the money to bid big on forwards this summer.

And if Arteta’s side can get into the Champions League next season, they may be able to entice a player like Abraham to the Etihad.
