AC Milan have presented Real Madrid legend Marcelo with a contract offer, according to AS.

Brazilian left-back Marcelo will leave Madrid at the end of the month on a free transfer after 15-and-a-half years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Marcelo had wanted to stay at Madrid for another season but the club decided against renewing his contract, which expires on June 30.

Now Serie A champions Milan are reported to have offered Marcelo a contract worth €3m net per season.

The Rossoneri are looking for a left-back as the drop-off from first-choice Theo Hernandez to second-choice Fode Ballo-Toure is huge.

However, AS says that Marcelo is not convinced about a transfer to Milan, particularly on a financial level as he was earning €6m per season at Madrid.

Marcelo's career at Madrid

Marcelo leaves Madrid having just lifted his fifth Champions League and his first as club captain. The Blancos defeated Liverpool 1-0 in Paris in the final and also clinched La Liga this past season.

In total, the Brazilian won 25 titles with Madrid, which is a club record.

He has six LaLiga Santander championships, five Champions League titles, five Spanish Super Cups, four Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and two Copa del Rey wins to his name.

He joined Madrid from Fluminense in the winter window of the 2006/07 season and soon went on to make the left-back spot his own.

He achieved something Real Madrid fans had thought would be impossible - replacing Roberto Carlos.

Not only did he take over the left flank from his Brazilian counterpart, but Marcelo went on to become the best left-back in the world for many years.

Now 34, Marcelo has somewhat been in decline in recent years but his experience still makes him an enticing option for many European clubs.
