Dest is a player that Barcelona have been seeking to move on for much of the summer transfer window.

Rumours late in the day suggested that he could head to Manchester United in a swap deal with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but instead he moves to Serie A, where he will turn out for the Rossoneri.

A statement on the Serie A side's website read: "AC Milan is pleased to announce that Sergiño Gianni Dest has joined the Club on loan from Barcelona FC, with an option to buy.

"Born in Almere in the Netherlands on 3 November 2002, Dest came through the youth ranks at Ajax and made his first-team debut in 2019. In total, he made 38 appearances for the Dutch side scoring two goals, and winning a Dutch Supercup. In 2020, he joined Barcelona FC notching up 72 appearances and scoring two goals; he also won a Spanish Cup. As per the national team, he has 17 appearances and 3 goals for the USA, winning the Concacaf Nations League 2019/20."

Is Dest an asset?

Dest joined Barca from Ajax in a €26m deal in 2020, but fell out of favour under Ronald Koeman's successor as coach at Camp Nou, Xavi.

He still averaged nine progressive carries and two dribbles completed last season, putting him in the top 98th percentile for those measures among right-backs La Liga-wide.

Milan haven't confirmed what the fee to make the loan deal permanent would be, but he is rated at €28m by Football Transfers' sophisticated inhouse algorithm.
