Hazard, 32, has been a free agent since his contract at Real Madrid expired in June, and despite interest from across the world, he could be set to retire from football.

During a docu-series about the Belgium national team, which is set to be released soon, Hazard admitted: “Little by little it’s time to enjoy life with my family and friends, drinking a few Jupiler beers.”

That quote has further fuelled speculation of retirement, with Get Football News France reporting that Hazard intends to stop everything and retire.”

Fabrizio Romano has also reported that retirement is an option for Hazard. He told CaughtOffside: “There’s a lot being speculated about Eden Hazard, who remains a free agent, but at the moment I’m not aware of anything concrete.

“There are a lot of rumours, but nothing advanced, because at the moment Hazard is still discussing with his family and those close to him about retirement.

“Retirement for Hazard is a concrete possibility," Romano continued. "But it’s not a final decision yet, and I think when we talk about a big decision like this for an important player like Hazard, I like to be respectful. It’s the player who has to decide and communicate, not for me or other journalists in general."

"For sure he’s considering retirement, but let’s see what he will decide, and I can say that all the rumours about Belgian clubs, or a return to Chelsea or other clubs, none of this was concrete or true."

Hazard’s options

Brazilian club Botafogo have seen an approach turned down by the Chelsea legend, as per AS, while clubs from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the USA have all registered interest in signing him on a free transfer.

Furthermore, Crystal Palace enquired about the possibility of signing Hazard - as exclusively reported by FootballTransfers - but the Eagles were not successful.

Now, Liga MX side Pachuca are keen on signing Hazard, according to OK Diario, via Fichajes.

The report states that: “The player has not approved the offer. Hazard apparently feels comfortable living in Madrid and there does not seem to be a clear destination in sight.”

Pachuca are currently 15th in the Mexican top flight after picking up just six points from their opening seven league matches of the 2023-24 campaign.
