50-cap Netherlands star CHARGED for MASSIVE drug trafficking operation
Former Ajax and Netherlands attacker Quincy Promes is being prosecuted for the import of cocaine into the port of Antwerp in 2020. The drugs were intercepted by the Belgian police at the time, after which Promes was associated with this shipment of hundreds of kilos of cocaine.
The 31-year-old, who has featured for Go Ahead Eagles, FC Twente and Ajax, among others, is currently playing for Spartak Moscow.
Robert Malewicz, Quincy Promes' lawyer, was present in court, according to Het Parool . In conversation with the newspaper, the lawyer did not want to anticipate the course of events too much: "I will provide a further explanation during the hearing."

Promes stabbed his cousin
During the investigation into the alleged drug trafficking of Promes, the police tapped his phone. In the tapped conversations, Promes spoke about an incident in which he was involved in a stabbing during a family party in Abcoude.
According to the conversations, the footballer stabbed his cousin in the knee with a knife. In March, the Public Prosecution Service demanded a two-year prison sentence against the footballer in connection with this case.
Justice has ruled that the charge of attempted murder or attempted manslaughter could not be proven in the case of the stabbing. Instead, it's classified as "aggravated assault."

Although Promes allegedly shouted during and after the incident that he wanted to kill his cousin, there was insufficient evidence that he actually intended to do so. In addition, according to the prosecutor, he did not take a significant risk of his cousin's death, as he hit him in the knee and not near an artery.
This case is separate from the investigation into the alleged drug trafficking case.
A pro forma hearing is planned for the cocaine case. However, it is still uncertain whether Quincy Promes will attend, as the footballer currently resides in Russia.
