Ajax ace attracting MAJOR Premier League interest as Everton circle
Chuba Akprom could leave Ajax just six months after arriving at the club, with a string of Premier League teams watching the Arsenal academy product.
The 28-year-old is not short of options for a January transfer, with the player unsettled after failing to nail down a starting position in Amsterdam following a summer move from Middlesbrough.
Lille, Crystal Palace and Fulham previously showed interest in Akpom, but now Luton Town and Everton also appear to be in the race for the attacker. According to English media, both clubs are considering making a bid for last year's Championship top scorer, but both parties will have to make haste as the transfer market closes on Thursday evening.
Akpom wants regular football
Akpom, who has scored nine times in 20 games for Ajax this season, has not started under John van 't Schip for more than a month. The striker had expected more from his period in Amsterdam and could get more playing time in England.
It is unclear whether the interested clubs want to commit to a loan transfer or the permanent signing of the attacker, who signed a five-year contract in Amsterdam last summer.
In conversation with Voetbal International, Akpom is honest about leaving: “I just hope to stay. There is interest from France and England, but I really feel that this can still be a success story for me at Ajax.”
However, Akpom does make a comment that hints at his desire to depart as he said: “I just have to play. Everything I've done so far has been in a limited time. Imagine if I were to play everything, I have the feeling that I could really have a successful time here.”
