Timber, the twin brother of Arsenal star Jurrien, is enjoying a remarkable campaign with the Rotterdam side and could potentially depart during the January transfer window.

The Feyenoord captain has a contract until 2026 and posts an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €14.5 million.

According to TeamTalk, Liverpool boss Slot is keen for a reunion with the versatile 23-year-old after his efforts to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad fell short, with the Spain international electing to sign a new contract with the team he grew up supporting.

Indeed, according to the report, talks have already taken place between Liverpool and Feyenoord over a deal but have not come to anything yet.

The Reds are eager to hurry through a move because they want to avoid a potential bidding war and they are hopeful that the Eredivisie’s side over the player may “soften” given Timber has just a couple of years left on his deal.

It is claimed that Liverpool are willing to be patient on the Netherlands international and could wait until next summer to strike a bargain, but equally a January transfer is not ruled out.

Liverpool’s Frenkie de Jong?

Slot is aiming to reinforce Liverpool’s midfield, which is thin in numbers and could use an injection of quality.

Timber’s versatility in this area would be a major bonus, but so could his quality. He was rated by data analytics firm SciSports as one of the Eredivisie’s leading players in this area last season.

The player, meanwhile, has said that he tries to model his game on Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong – a star long linked with Liverpool’s fierce rivals Manchester United.

“I really enjoy watching Frenkie de Jong,” Timber has admitted in December 2022. “I pay attention to what he does without the ball, for example.”

SciSports show that Timber is more of a box-to-box player than De Jong, who operates primarily as a deep lying playmaker, a role that the Feyenoord player can also perform.
