The Saudi Pro League has taken the transfer market by storm and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) don’t look like stopping anytime soon as they continue to offer bumper contracts to some of the biggest players in world football.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Al-Nassr in late 2022 after leaving Manchester United by mutual agreement was the first major move made by the Saudi PIF, who own the league’s four biggest teams - Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, Al Ahli and Al-Hilal.

However, Ronaldo’s arrival was just the beginning, and N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema, Ruben Neves and Kalidou Koulibaly are among the players who have moved to Saudi Arabian clubs in 2023.

The Saudi Pro League also tried to sign Lionel Messi upon the expiration of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, but the 2022 World Cup winner decided to join MLS side Inter Miami instead.

With several of the world’s biggest names and best players now plying their trade in Saudi Arabia, TV rights deals for the league are a big talking point and demand for watching the league’s games is now at an all-time high.

The International Management Group (IMG) sealed short-term TV deals for the Saudi Pro League across the world when Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr, with Australia among the countries to broadcast matches.

It remains to be seen whether a more long-term deal occurs ahead of next season. However, the Saudi Pro League has told IMG to finalise international TV rights deals for the new campaign.

Streaming site 10 Play does have rights to the Saudi Pro League, however, which viewers in Australia can subscribe to. Alternatively, Shahid are the exclusive global rights streaming services for the Saudi Pro League.
