Saudi Pro League January transfers 2024: All the Done Deals

The Saudi Pro League's January 2024 transfer window has slammed shut.

The Saudi Pro League took the transfer market by storm in 2023. The same, though, did not happen during the winter market of 2024.

Saudi Arabia attracted a host of world-class players moving to the Kingdom for astronomical fees and on massive wages in 2023. These included Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Sadio Mane, Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, Malcom, Ruben Neves and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

But in January 2024, Saudi clubs opted to keep their powder dry ahead of a big summer of spending later this year.

The first transfer of the January 2024 window was a minor one as Mo Adams moved to Al Khaleej from Al-Shabab for an undisclosed fee.

Victor Ruiz was released by Al-Fayha in the second move of the January window.

The first big transfer of the January 2024 transfer window saw Al Hilal sign Marseille and Brazil left-back Renan Lodi for €23m. Al-Hilal are currently the leaders of the Saudi Pro League and hope that Lodi will help take them closer to winning the trophy.

Al-Shabab then added Sevilla legend Ivan Rakitic on a free transfer.

Al Ittihad made a €30m bid for Juventus winger Matias Soule, who has starred in Serie A this season on loan at Frosinone. However, Soule rejected the move as he wants to stay in Europe.

Man Utd star Casemiro was wanted by Saudi Arabian clubs for January but a move ultimately proved impossible.

There were also big names who left Saudi Arabia in January.

Jordan Henderson quickly became unsettled after joining Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq on a huge salary from Liverpool last summer. Ajax freed the England midfielder from his Saudi misery after a contract termination with Ettifaq was agreed.

Al-Hilal's Ruben Neves had also been associated with a move back to the Premier League, while Al-Ahli's Gabri Veiga was reportedly looking to return to his homeland of Spain. He has disappointed since rejecting a transfer to Italian champions Napoli in order to move to Saudi Arabia. Veiga's teammate Roberto Firmino had also been linked with an exit but all these players ultimately stayed.

One star who did leave Saudi Arabia was former Inter, Valencia and Argentina midfielder Ever Banega, who was released by Al-Shabab. Banega moved back to Argentina to join Newell's Old Boys.

Gerrard's Ettifaq were desperate to do some business after a disappointing start to the campaign and the loss of Henderson and were thus very busy on Deadline Day, signing Seko Fofana and Karl Toko Ekambi on loan from Pro League rivals and getting rid of Marcel Tisserand and Vitinho.

The 2023-24 January window opened its doors on Monday, 1 January 2024 and closes on Tuesday, 30 January.
