Alphonso Davies: Man Utd and Real Madrid’s transfer prospects as shock suitor revealed
Alphonso Davies’ future is becoming clearer, with major updates on the transfer rumours linking him to both Manchester United and Real Madrid, who are hopeful of prising him away from Bayern Munich as a free agent in the summer.
Davies, as things stand, is out of contract with Bayern at the end of June 2025 and will be able to formally open discussions with foreign clubs as of 1 January.
Real Madrid have been long-time leaders in seeking to sign Davies as a free agent to solve a long-standing issue at left-back, but lately Man Utd have emerged as a serious threat while Bayern Munich’s hopes of renewing his deal have been boosted.
Real Madrid hopes diminishing
The chances of seeing Davies in the white of Real Madrid next season are diminishing.
According to Cadena SER, Los Blancos are slowly losing patience with the defender, whose prospects of moving to the club are only considered to be “50-50” at present.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have put a January deadline on Davies to make his decision and should he fail to come back with a positive answer, they will switch to alternative targets.
The Athletic claims Real Madrid’s interest in the 24-year-old has never been particularly concrete.
It states: “Madrid cooled on the idea and only resumed contact with Davies’ camp after they won the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund in June. That, coupled with Madrid not making a formal offer to Bayern in the summer, left Davies in doubt about whether the Spanish club really wanted him.”
Alphonso Davies: Four Premier League clubs interested
Davies’ prospects of moving to Man Utd are not high, The Athletic reports.
“Sources close to the player say the upheaval at the club and their current lack of involvement in the Champions League makes them less attractive from his end. At a time when budgets are tight at United, Davies would be a high earner even if arriving as a free agent and club sources say it is not a priority deal at present,” it states.
Liverpool have emerged as the “most plausible” destination for Davies in the Premier League, the same report continues, though Arsenal and Chelsea are also said to be monitoring the player.
New contract likely
Although negotiations between Bayern and Davies have not necessarily gone smoothly, the likely outcome is that the Canada international will remain at the Allianz Arena for at least another year.
“Bayern have made significant progress in the Davies poker game. The talks are well advanced, some financial details have already been clarified, others still need to be finalised,” Sky Sports Deutschland reported last week.
“Davies has made significant concessions to the Munich team on the salary issue. Since Davies' form curve is clearly on the up this season, Max Eberl, Christoph Freund & Co. have also followed suit. It is all about a new long-term contract.”
Although Bild claimed that Davies’ agent was unhappy with the way Bayern are conducting their negotiations, it appears he is likely to stay put.
