Only Aston Villa have spent more money than Chelsea this summer across world football, with the Blues splashing out €88 million on players so far.

Chelsea’s first team squad contains more than 40 players and it appears another youngster will be added to their crowded collection, with Guela Doue set to join from Rennes.

Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Doue will join from Ligue 1 side Rennes for an initial fee of €7m, with an additional €2m in add-ons.

However, Doue is expected to be loaned out to BlueCo affiliates Strasbourg, having reportedly rejected a move to Turkish side Galatasaray earlier this week.

The 21-year-old is the older brother of Desire Doue, who was also being monitored by Chelsea, however he is now in talks with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain over a €60m transfer from Rennes.

Chelsea operating under loan constraints

The older Doue is currently in the final year of his contract with Rennes, having made 13 starts in Ligue 1 last season at right-back.

Manchester United had also been linked to Doue but Chelsea look set to win the race and will use one of their six foreign loan spots to send the defender to Strasbourg.

Andrey Santos and Caleb Wiley are also expected to be loaned out to Strasbourg, while Marc Guiu and Lesley Ugochukwu have also been linked with temporary moves away.

But Chelsea will be unable to also find loans likes of Angelo Gabriel, Deivid Washington and David Datro Fofana, all of whom seem unlikely to feature for the first team next season, due to the loan limits surrounding the club.

Enzo Maresca’s side also still wish to sign a striker and a goalkeeper for the first team but the priority will likely be trying to reduce the squad size before further reinforcements arrive.
