We are told that while Man Utd are aiming to sign younger players this window, it isn't a strict policy, especially as they want someone with experience to play alongside Kobbie Mainoo.

Goretzka's name has been penned in as one in that mould and Man Utd value the midfielder at around €40 million.

The Red Devils are bracing for the departure of Casemiro, who has significant interest stemming from the Saudi Pro League.

Goretzka was listed as one of the players who are allowed to depart Bayern this forthcoming window if they receive a suitable offer, along with Matthijs De Ligt, Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Noussair Mazraoui.

It comes after Man Utd opted to keep Erik ten Hag as head coach after speaking with several candidates over taking over from the Dutchman.

With Ten Hag set to continue as Man Utd manager, the club can now begin finalising their summer transfer plans.

The likes of Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton) and Michael Olise (Crystal Palace) remain key targets, while the Red Devils are also pursuing a new central midfielder to replace Casemiro and a new striker to replace Anthony Martial.

Raphael Varane and Martial have already departed on free transfers, with Christian Eriksen among the players also expected to leave.
