Man City plot stunning Liverpool raid for free agent superstar
Manchester City have 'already opened talks' with Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to a sensational report.
The right-back's contract situation at Liverpool is well-known. Alexander-Arnold is, as things stand, set to be a free agent next summer, though the Reds are determined to keep hold of their academy graduate and have officially offered him a new deal.
Alexander-Arnold's expiring contract has attracted the attention of Real Madrid, who have been following him as a priority right-back target since the spring. Obviously, when Los Blancos come calling, you listen, although former Liverpool star Michael Owen has warned Trent off making the move.

However, it appears that the Spanish champions are far from the only side to have hope of landing the England international. According to an eyebrow-raising report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool's bitter Premier League rivals Man City are also in the mix.
Man City in Alexander-Arnold talks
The report claims that Pep Guardiola's side have 'already opened talks' with the player's camp, though the outlet refuses to make a prediction as to the potential outcome of the negotiations.
It must, of course, be said that this is a completely unrealistic transfer for several reasons. For one, Premier League clubs interested in a soon-to-be free agent from a fellow English side can only officially begin negotiations a month before the expiration of a contract rather than in January.

Additionally, a transfer to the Etihad would be seen as an unforgivable betrayal, much more so than a move to Real Madrid, albeit that would also be far from a popular decision. It seems highly unlikely that the boyhood Liverpool fan would move to a direct Premier League rival.
It is also asserted that Barcelona are 'prioritising' the signing of Alexander-Arnold, though Real Madrid remain the clear favourites for his signature should he decide to call time on his Liverpool career. PSG are also said to hold a tentative interest.
