Viktor Gyokeres has the exit door at Sporting CP open to him as the Lisbon club has been plunged into crisis following the departure of Ruben Amorim to Manchester United.

Sporting had been undefeated under Amorim this season, yet following his decision to become the head coach at Man Utd, they have suffered three successive losses.

According to Correio da Manha, this sharp decline has left Gyokeres “discontent” and could trigger an imminent transfer.

The 26-year-old has been one of the hottest players on the transfer market for months, yet his attractiveness has only been heightened by a start to the season that has seen him score 25 goals in 22 games.

Gyokeres, however, has only netted once in the last three, which have seen Sporting lose to Arsenal and suffer shock domestic losses to Santa Clara and Moreirense, having previously been perfect in the league.

Barcelona tipped for Gyokeres move

Barcelona are claimed by the Portuguese source to be one of the most interested parties in signing Gyokeres, with the Spaniards set to be bolstered by a massive investment that could allow them to make signings as soon as January.

It is claimed that the former Coventry man is seen as a potential replacement for veteran attacker Robert Lewandowski, despite the 36-year-old Pole having scored 23 times in 21 games.

Even allowing for Barca’s interest, it would be surprising if they were to be willing to trigger the striker’s €100 million release clause – believed to be the figure that could prompt a move – during January given Lewandowski’s ongoing excellence.

PSG, meanwhile, are said to be preparing such an offer. The Ligue 1 side are desperate for more firepower after a disappointing start to the season, yet head coach Luis Enrique is reportedly not a fan of the player and has said he will only give him limited minutes.

Interest also arrives from the Premier League, where Amorim’s Manchester United are set to vie with Arsenal and Chelsea for the in-form striker. A January move here appears a long shot, yet with Gyokeres suddenly only the market, nothing should be ruled out.
