Paul Pogba has branded media reports suggesting that he has fallen out with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as “big lies to make headlines”.

Pogba was a substitute during Sunday’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool at home but when he was brought on he was sent off for a lunging challenge early in the second half.

In the aftermath of the dismissal, it was reported by The Sun that the France star had snubbed manager Solskjaer but had apologised to his team-mates.

Pogba has taken to social media to outright deny these claims.

“Big lies to make headlines,” he posted on Twitter.

Man Utd’s Pogba problem

The report also suggested that Pogba had stalled on contract talks with the club as a result of his fallout with the manager.

Clearly, this would have a dramatic bearing on both the future of the club and the player, whose deal at Old Trafford is up in June 2022.

Indeed, Pogba is free to talk to rival clubs as early as 1 January, so it is an issue that Man Utd must hurry to resolve.

Any delay to talks caused by the player’s relationship with Solskjaer would burn valuable days in their quest to resolve a difficult situation.

Nevertheless, Pogba continues to be problematic for Man Utd.

A player who commands a large wage, he does not necessarily pull his weight similarly on the field, as evidenced by Solskjaer’s decision to bench him at the weekend.

However, Pogba has shown that at his best, he is a world-class performer. Indeed, with seven assists in the Premier League already this season, no player in Europe’s ‘Big 5’ leagues provides more.

Despite this, the question remains: is Pogba value for money at Man Utd?
