The six Chelsea players Tuchel has put up for sale

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will look to offload as many as six players in the upcoming January transfer window.

According to the Express; Andreas Christensen, Saul Niguez, Ross Barkley, Lewis Baker, Charly Musonda, and Malang Sarr could be moved on away from Stamford Bridge in a couple of months.

The German boss is eager to raise some funds for possible reinforcements, while also freeing up some money in the wage budget.

The Blues have one of the most star-studded squads in European football and that is serving them well currently as they lead the Premier League after the opening 11 rounds of fixtures.

At the moment, they are three points clear of Manchester City in second.

Here, FootballTransfers looks at the respective situations of each player up for sale.

Andreas Christensen

Perhaps the most surprising player on the list is Christensen as he remains a first-team player for Tuchel and Chelsea.

The Denmark international has started 12 matches in all competitions for his side this season including all four Champions League matches so far.

But, unfortunately for Christensen and for Chelsea, they have been unable to come to an agreement on a new contract, with the player's deal set to expire in the summer of 2022.

Christensen is currently one of the lowest paid players in the Chelsea squad and has reportedly asked for a significant pay rise due to his aforementioned status as a first team player.

If an agreement can't be made before January, when he can talk to other clubs about a potential free transfer, then Chelsea will attempt to get a small fee for the central defender in January rather than losing him for nothing.

Saul Niguez

Saul's loan deal at Chelsea from Atletico Madrid has been a disaster.

The Spaniard made his debut in a match against Aston Villa in the Premier League which Chelsea won 3-0, but was publicly criticised by Tuchel for his performance in the game, which eventually led to a half-time substitution.

Saul hasn't really recovered from that and hasn't started a match in the league since, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and even Barkley moving ahead of him in the midfield pecking order.

Unless there is a drastic improvement, Chelsea will not exercise their option to sign him permanently from Atletico, while they could actually look to terminate the loan early in January.

Lewis Baker

Baker could finally leave Chelsea on a permanent basis in January after failing to establish himself in the first team squad.

At 26, he has been on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, Milton Keynes Dons, Vitesse, Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Reading, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Trabzonspor.

He'll probably need to move on for the good of his career.

Charly Musonda

Big things were expected of Charly Musonda at Chelsea, but like so many others, he has proved not good enough to be a starter at Stamford Bridge or even a squad player.

He has been on loan at Celtic, Betis and Vitesse to not much success and has injury issues also.

Musonda has already announced his intention to leave as a free agent in the summer, so it seems unlikely anyone will be willing to pay a transfer fee before then.

Ross Barkley

As mentioned above, Barkley has been involved at Chelsea more over the last month or so.

The England international spent last season on loan at Aston Villa and when that finished, he returned to Chelsea, probably expecting another move away.

He stayed, and has now featured in eight games in 2021/22, even if just two have been starts.

Even with the increased minutes, Chelsea would still be willing to sell.

Malang Sarr

Due to the absences of Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger, Malang Sarr made his Premier League debut recently in a fixture against Brentford and actually played very well as Chelsea won 1-0.

Clearly, however, Tuchel does not think Sarr has a future at the club as he has only been used in an emergency.

He isn't especially young, either, at 22, so Chelsea may look to make a profit on the Frenchman after signing him on a free transfer from Nice.
