Should Liverpool cash in on Thiago in January if Barcelona come calling?
Unlike their Premier League rivals, Liverpool will undoubtedly have to sell players before they can make major investments in the January transfer window.
Despite looking good in the English top-flight with just one defeat from their opening 11 games, Jurgen Klopp will already have plans for what additions he needs to make to his team to ensure their form runs right through to the end of the season.
If the club are intent on selling bit-part players then they may find a useful solution in the form of Thiago Alcantara, who is apparently moving to the top of Barcelona’s shopping list for the forthcoming transfer window.
So should Liverpool cash in on Thiago if Barcelona come calling in the new year?
Should Liverpool sell Thiago?
While Thiago hasn’t entirely disappointed at Liverpool, few fans of the club would be willing to admit that he has lived up to the billing following some truly all-conquering seasons at Bayern Munich.
Indeed, the club didn’t exactly break the bank when they signed the midfielder for £19m in 2020, but even with that in mind there’s no doubt that injuries and stuttering form have limited his impact at Anfield.
To date the Spain international has missed no less than 33 games through injury in just two seasons and while Liverpool could always use an extra pair of hands in midfield, the opportunity to cash in on Thiago in January could perhaps prove to be too enticing for the club.
How much could Liverpool get for him?
With a contract at the Anfield club until 2023 and still being a player in his prime, Thiago would likely demand a solid fee on the transfer market in January.
At this moment in time, Thiago is currently valued at €25 million and could go for as much as €32m if Barcelona and other clubs end up getting into a bidding war for the player.
While that may not seem like eye-watering sums of money, it could end up being extremely instrumental in Liverpool’s attempts to solidify other parts of their team.
