Former Liverpool star tips Ronaldo to leave Man Utd for Real Madrid
Former Liverpool favourite Steve McManaman believes Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Real Madrid this summer.
After informing Juventus of his desire to leave in the summer, the Portuguese forward completed an emotional return to Man Utd, the club he represented between 2003 and 2009 to huge success.
Overall, the Red Devils are having a difficult season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being sacked last month to be replaced by Ralf Rangnick.
They are currently 14 points off the pace in the Premier League, and largely had to rely on the performances of Ronaldo to progress through the group stage in the Champions League.
One of the few shining lights has been the performances of the Portuguese superstar, who has scored 13 goals in 16 starts.
Before completing a €100 million transfer to Juventus, Ronaldo became a legendary figure at Real Madrid, breaking various goalscoring records.
At Santiago Bernabeu, he won two La Liga titles, four Champions League titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and three Club World Cup tournaments.
McManaman believes that Ronaldo could be tempted by a return to Real Madrid, who allegedly have plenty of money to spend after being relatively frugal by their standards over the past couple of seasons.
What did McManaman say about Ronaldo?
“It’s not impossible. Nothing is impossible when you’re talking about Real Madrid. They haven’t spent much money in recent times so they now have a war chest of cash to spend," he told Horseracing.net.
"They’ve been renovating the stadium and then of course COVID happened, so Real have been getting themselves ready for when they come out the other side, like most teams have.
"Barcelona may be struggling but Real Madrid are flourishing. They’ve got money and there’s a good chance that Kylian Mbappe will go there as well as Antonio Rudiger for free.
"They also sound as if they’re interested in Erling Haaland who they can bring in if they want too. The renovation of the Bernabeu almost symbolises a new dawn at Real Madrid.
"There’s a lot of opportunities for players to go to Real Madrid. They’ve got the funds to battle with other teams and if Mbappé goes there then it looks even more enticing for other players to go. Cristiano could go back but I think he will have another year at Manchester United and then see.”
