Real Madrid’s desire to offload Eden Hazard has long been established, but that does not mean they will accept any offer for the Belgium international attacker, as West Ham have reportedly found out.

The Premier League side, along with Everton, have been linked with the forward. Meanwhile, Chelsea have reportedly been offered him.

Hazard’s star has fallen dramatically since making a €100 million move in 2019. That deal was done just a year from the end of his Chelsea contract and has proven to be one of the poorest pieces of business that Madrid have done in recent years.

The 30-year-old has failed to overcome countless injury setbacks since the deal and has managed only 55 appearances in his period at the club. In these games, he has contributed only five goals and nine assists – well below the figures expected of him.

El Nacional reports that West Ham made an offer of €25m for Hazard, who will turn 31 in January.

This, however, was knocked back by Real Madrid, who are holding out for €50m for a player whose contract is up in 2024.

This seems an astronomical valuation for a player who now holds few guarantees with regards his fitness and form. It has been over two years since Hazard was anywhere close to his best and Real Madrid’s supposed valuation does not reflect that.

On top of that, he also commands a wage of €26 million per year, making him one of the best-paid players on the planet. Any club signing him will have to absorb much of this.

How much is Hazard worth?

FootballTransfers’ algorithm suggests that Hazard’s value is around €22m, which is in line with West Ham’s offer.

The reason his price is so low is due in part to his lack of game time in recent months but also because of a lack of production when he is available. Furthermore, at 30 years old, he now only has so much sell-on value.

Even though Premier League teams like West Ham have plenty of money sloshing around, they will think twice if Real Madrid hold out for the €50m they are reportedly asking for. Hazard is simply not worth the risk any longer.
