Manchester United will undoubtedly be in the market for a new central midfielder this summer and that could lead to a particular name from the past being dug back up and once again linked to the Old Trafford side.

Indeed, few could begrudge the eye rolls that come from most Man Utd fans when the name Sergej Milinkovic-Savic finds itself back into the rumour mill.

Ever since the Serbia international made the move to Lazio in 2015 and started performing in Serie A, it seems as though a move to Old Trafford has been destined without ever actually happening.

According to the Express, the Old Trafford side are "serious" about signing the Serie A star as they lead a race of five clubs that are hoping to make a bid for the player this summer.

However, all jokes aside about the club's long-standing interest in the midfielder, this coming summer transfer window may finally be the perfect opportunity for Man Utd to finally sign Milinkovic-Savic.

He’s not too expensive

When it comes to Man Utd signing ready-made players to immediately improve their first team, the club are well versed in spending large sums of money when needed.

They did it with Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in recent seasons and they’ll likely do it again this sumer if they believe they can land the Lazio star at a certain price.

Although Milinkovic-Savic is currently valued at €39 million and reports in Italy suggest the capital side are holding out for €75 million, that’s still some way short of what Declan Rice or Jude Bellingham would cost.

He’s good enough

While the box-to-box talent would have to prove that he’s good enough to make the step up to the Premier League, Man Utd fans would be forgiven for getting excited about Milinkovic-Savic based on his form in the Italian top-flight.

In 213 Serie A games, Milinkovic-Savic has bagged no less than 55 goals and 47 assists for Lazio and in this season alone he’s picked up eight goals and eight assists in 25 league games.

Indeed, Milinkovic-Savic has shown for a number of years now that he’s perfectly adept at scoring and creating goals in equal measure and that could be exactly what Man Utd will need in the centre of midfield next season.

Should Man Utd finally sign Milinkovic-Savic?
