Jesse Lingard has no future at Manchester United once his loan spell at West Ham ends, says Rio Ferdinand.

Lingard moved on loan to West Ham until the end of the season during the January transfer window, having fallen out of favour at Old Trafford.

He did not play a single minute of Premier League football for Man Utd in 2020/21 but he has started well at West Ham, scoring twice on his debut in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

“What’s his ambition here, beyond this season, what is he [Lingard] looking to do?” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“If West Ham don’t put a bid in to buy him at the end of this loan, I think this loan has to be seen as a failure.

“That’s got to be his aim… to get a bid from West Ham and other clubs to take him out of Man United.

“Because I don’t see him going back to Man United and really affecting that squad now. I think they’ve moved past him with the players they’ve recruited, he doesn’t feature, hasn’t done for so long.”

The 28-year-old Lingard graduated from the Man Utd youth academy and went on to score 33 goals in 210 appearances for the first team.
