Crystal Palace star Cahill refusing to panic over future as contract runs down

Crystal Palace defender Gary Cahill insists he is “totally relaxed” about his future despite his contract running out at the end of the season.

Cahill, 35, has played 11 times for Palace this season and looks set to help them over the line to another season in the top flight.

Manager Roy Hodgson has said that Cahill must earn a new deal at Selhurst Park, with his own future still very much up in the air. Cahill, though, insists he is not worried about his current situation.

The former England defender told the Evening Standard: “I am totally relaxed about the situation myself.

“I am in a different situation to some in terms of their age. I am just looking to consistently try and perform at the level I want to be at.”

Cahill’s only goal of the season came in a vital win against fellow strugglers Newcastle United.

He joined Palace after leaving former club Chelsea in 2019, where he won two Premier League titles and the Champions League among other honours.

Elsewhere, Wilfried Zaha is hoping to return from injury to face Tottenham Hotspur. Palace’s Ivorian star has not played since coming off in the victory over Newcastle at St James’ Park last month.
