Manchester United announce latest pro deal for young talent
Manchester United youngster Zidane Iqbal has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 17-year-old’s new deal was confirmed by his agency, Base Soccer, who posted on social media: “Many congratulations to Zidane Iqbal, who has signed his first professional contract with Manchester United. Well done Zee!”
Iqbal has been sidelined by injury since December but is expected to return to action before the end of the season.
The teenager joins fellow United youth prospects Teden Mengi, Shola Shoretire, Hannibal Mejbri and Anthony Elanga in having recently penned fresh terms.
In an Instagram post, he wrote: Delighted to announce I’ve signed my first professional contract with my boyhood club @manchesterunited. hard work continues.”
According to the Manchester Evening News, United plan to move Iqbal up to the U23 squad next season after he has celebrated his 18th birthday.
Injury denied the midfielder the chance to feature in an FA Youth Cup clash with Liverpool over the weekend, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.
However, his imminent return could boost the Red Devils’ chances of winning the U18 Premier League, which they currently lead by two points.
