Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin has slammed Liverpool fans for their criticism of Sadio Mane following Saturday’s dramatic draw.

Mane came in for heavy condemnation from supporters during and after Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at St James’ Park.

The Senegalese international squandered a number of chances to finish off the game as Newcastle earned a point deep into stoppage time.

The result means Liverpool are now at big risk of missing out on Champions League qualification.

Saint-Maximin produced a man-of-the-match performance for Newcastle, a display that led to one fan asking the winger to replace Mane at Liverpool.

“Can you come to Liverpool and Mane goes the other way?” tweeted one supporter to Saint-Maximin.

This prompted an angry reply from the Frenchman.

“I know you think it’s a nice message to me but I don’t like this,” he replied. “Be respectful to him please, you are ungrateful. He did and he’s doing a lot for Liverpool, there is still a long way before I could reach his level.”

Saint-Maximin is one of the few bright sparks for a Newcastle team that has struggled badly for much of the Premier League season.

Still only 24, the explosive wideman joined Newcastle from Nice in 2019 for a fee of €22 million. He has scored six goals and grabbed eight assists in his two seasons at the club.
