Who is Kayky? The Fluminense star that just joined Manchester City
Manchester City have confirmed that they’ve reached an agreement to sign Fluminense star Kayky at the end of the season.
While the Premier League giants have yet to reveal what kind of deal the 17-year-old winger will be on when he eventually makes the move to England, it is still unquestionably something of a coup for the club.
According to reports in England, both Liverpool and Shakhtar Donetsk were interested in signing Kayky but it now seems as though both clubs were too slow in their pursuit.
So who is Kayky, where does he play and what can Man City fans expect from their latest signing in the years to come?
What position does Kayky play in?
Kayky is primarily a right-winger, cutting inside onto his stronger left foot to devastating effect.
He looks talented enough to play anywhere across the frontline, and once Pep Guardiola begins to coach him, it’s likely that he will become a versatile forward option.
How good is Kayky?
At just 17, and having only played six games for Fluminense’s senior team in their state championship this year, it’s hard to tell just how good he is, but the early signs are extremely promising.
He has netted two goals and grabbed one assist in those six games, including this solo stunner for his first goal for the club:
He also finished as the top scorer in last year’s Brasileirao Under-17 Championship, scoring 12 goals in the competition as Fluminense took victory.
He has been dubbed ‘the next Neymar’, with his close control and speed drawing comparisons with the PSG superstar.
Fluminense’s U17 coach, Guilherme Torres, previously outlined to Goal what kind of player he is, saying:
“Kayky is a player who stands out a lot for his technical quality, especially with regard to one-on-ones, and also in his quality in front of goal.
“He is also very intelligent, searches for empty spaces on the field and has a good ability to provide assists for his team-mates.
“In addition, he has a winning, competitive mentality, which is important for a high-level player. His resilience has grown as he has matured, and he is learning how to deal with adversity.”
What clubs were interested in Kayky?
Man City have managed to land the wonderkid, but both Liverpool and Shakhtar Donetsk were reportedly interested, after his performances, and the talent he possesses, impressed their scouts.
However, it is Guardiola’s side who have agreed a deal with Fluminense, a club whose academy has also produced Real Madrid’s Marcelo, Liverpool’s Fabinho and ex-Premier League winning twin full-backs Rafael and Fabio.
When does Kayky’s contract expire?
It has been reported that his deal at Man City will run until 2027, with a five-year contract agreed from 2022.
What is Kayky’s Instagram?
Kayky’s Instagram account has 42k followers as of April 2021.
