Kessie rejects Liverpool transfer: Milan forever!
Franck Kessie has rejected the chance to join Liverpool and says that he wants to stay with Milan for the rest of his career.
The future of the Ivory Coast international has been in doubt in recent weeks because his contract expires next year and he is yet to pen an extension.
This has led to concerns from Milan fans that he could follow in the footsteps of Gigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu, both of whom wound down their contracts and left on a Bosman this summer.
But Kessie, who is currently at the Olympics with the Ivory Coast, has promised supporters that he will extend his contract.
Indeed, he says that he has no interest in leaving Milan for Liverpool, who have been credited with making a summer transfer bid for him.
Kessie: I'm staying at Milan
“I’m proud to have chosen Milan and it’s not my intention to leave,” Kessie told Gazzetta dello Sport. “Indeed, I want to stay forever.
“Now it’s the Olympics, but when I come back, I will fix everything. There will be no problems, I always keep my word. The club has always known that my will is to stay with the Rossoneri. An important season awaits us.
“I only want Milan. We are a fantastic group; I can’t wait to be able to hug my teammates and the coach again. We will have to live up to the name Milan have in Europe.
“We have to aim for the maximum in every competition, both in the League and in the cups. We will not disappoint.
“I would like to go as far as possible in the Olympics with Ivory Coast, then Milan will have for as long as they want.”
Kessie signed for Milan from Atalanta in 2017 but enjoyed the best season of his career in 2020-21, scoring 14 goals in all competitions from centre midfield to take the Rossoneri back into the Champions League for the first time in seven years.
