Former Manchester City prospect Lukas Nmecha has admitted that he had to leave the club this summer because the English giants are about to sign ‘another top striker’ in the summer transfer window.

After spending 14 years coming through the club’s youth academy and spending time on loan at a number of clubs around Europe, Nmecha opted for a permanent move to his native Germany when Wolfsburg offered to buy the player for £7.2 million.

Well regarded in his homeland for the performances he put on for the Germany Under-21 side, Nmecha was highly sought after and eventually agreed to join Wolfsburg after some encouraging conversations with new head coach Mark van Bommel.

However, alongside getting his senior career back on track, Nmecha was happy to admit that his decision to leave Man City was due to a lack of first team opportunities and the fact that his position was about to be filled by another top striker.

“I still had one year of contract," said Nmecha in an interview with Kicker when asked about his reasons for leaving Man City. “They're getting another top striker, I don't think my chances would have been very good there."

Which top striker will join Manchester City this summer?

Following the departure of Sergio Aguero to join Barcelona this summer, it has seemed inevitable that Pep Guardiola would seek to sign another striker before the start of the new season.

The player that has been consistently linked with a move to Man City is Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, due to the fact that the England international is a proven talent in the Premier League and is reportedly desperate to sign for a bigger club that can challenge for silverware.

The other candidate is none other than Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, who Man City have reportedly taken some interest in over the last 12 months. However, unlike Kane, it seems as though City would face significant competition from other Premier League sides for the Norwegian’s signature.
