Contract extension is coming for Jordan Henderson

There may have been transfer talk regarding Jordan Henderson all summer, with the Liverpool captain even linked with Arsenal at one point, but it seems that the midfielder is going to sign a new deal with his current club, the club he joined in 2011.

As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, Henderson is discussing the last few details of his contract extension and will soon put pen to paper on a new deal, one which will run to 2024.

This is big news, considering how Henderson was being linked with other clubs all summer. His current deal runs until 2023, so there was even talk of Liverpool cashing in on their captain in this current transfer window.

Henderson to renew to 2024

Now, though, it seems that the Liverpool captain will sign on for one extra year, until 2024. There had always been a willingness from both parties to reach an agreement, but there were several delays in contract talks and this had Liverpool fans worried.

Jurgen Klopp has remained calm throughout the entire process, though. “No, still all good,” was his update on the Henderson situation when he was asked this week.

Meanwhile, Henderson returned to action in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, after missing their season opener following his late return after Euro 2020.

Not only did the captain play 90 minutes at a packed Anfield, but he also wore the armband with pride as a special tribute was held for Andrew Devine, the 97th victim of the Hillsborough disaster. “Andrew was one of us and will always be one of us,” was Henderson’s message on social media after the game.

Now, it appears that Henderson will be captaining the club for several more years to come.
