Manchester United have sent youngster Facundo Pellistri out on loan once more, in order to gain more first-team experience.

Pellistri, who was on loan at La Liga club Deportivo Alaves during the final part of the 2020/21 season, has re-joined the club, this time on a season-long loan deal, that will see him stay until the summer of 2022 before returning to Old Trafford.

With the arrival of Jadon Sancho, added to a forward line that already consisted of: Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial, Daniel James and Juan Mata, as well as fellow youngsters Amad Diallo and Anthony Elanga, Pellistri was never likely to get a look in this season.

That's why a temporary move away was expected for the 19-year-old, and that's now been confirmed.

Pellistri only joined Man Utd in 2020, signing for €9 million (£7.65m) from Uruguayan side CA Penarol after impressing in South America.

Upon arrival in Manchester, he linked up with the U23 side, making eight appearances for the youth side, scoring three goals and assisted once.

He was then sent to Alaves for the remainder of last season.

He is yet to make his senior Man Utd debut, but he did score the winning goal against Derby County in a recent pre-season friendly.

How well did Pellistri perform at Alaves last season?

To renew his loan spell must mean Alaves were pleased with Pellistri's progress at the club, which will excite Manchester United fans.

He made 12 appearances for Alaves last term, with five of those coming as starts. He didn't manage a goal contribution, however, but he did help them stay clear of the relegation zone. They finished the season in 15th, four points clear of SD Huesca in 18th.

In a club statement, Man Utd said: "Everybody at United wishes Facundo all the best this season and we will be tracking his progress closely."
