Patrick Bamford has ended speculation over his future at Leeds by signing a new five-year contract with the Elland Road side.

Earlier this week, reports emerged that Bamford was being targeted by Tottenham as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

Kane is wanted by Manchester City in a £150 million deal, but up until now those negotiations have not developed into a transfer being agreed.

If it were, Spurs would need to replace him, with Bamford mentioned as a name on their wishlist.

Nuno Espirito Santo and the North London side will need to look elsewhere now, however, with Bamford set to continue his journey with Leeds.

On Thursday morning, manager Marcelo Bielsa stated his belief that Bamford was one of the best around in the country, saying:

"Bamford is a very important player for us and one of the best strikers that English football has," he told reporters.

Leeds' announcement

A statement on the official Leeds website confirmed the news.

"Leeds United are delighted to announce Patrick Bamford has signed a new contract with the club.

"The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal, keeping him at Elland Road until the summer of 2026.

"Bamford joined the club in July 2018 from Middlesbrough and since arriving in West Yorkshire, has netted an impressive 43 goals in 111 matches.

"The striker was restricted to 25 appearances in his first campaign, due to injury, but went on to play a key role in helping Marcelo Bielsa’s side win the Sky Bet Championship in his second season, featuring in all but one of Leeds’ 46 league matches, with the Whites winning the division by 10 points.

"In the club’s first campaign back in the top-flight in 16 years last season, Bamford hit 17 goals in 38 Premier League outings, including a stunning hat-trick against Aston Villa.

"His fine performances helped the Whites finish in ninth spot and led to calls for him to be involved in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad, which he narrowly missed out on.

"The forward made his first league appearance of the 2021/22 campaign last Saturday and could feature once again this weekend as the Whites take on Everton at Elland Road.

"He joins fellow teammates Stuart Dallas and Illan Meslier in pledging his future to the club this summer."
