FIFA 22 player ratings: Top 20 defenders on the game as Van Dijk tops the standings

Virgil van Dijk is the highest-rated defender in FIFA 22, with the Liverpool man receiving a rating of 89.

The big Dutchman has emerged as arguably the best defender in the world over the past couple of years through his exploits with the Reds.

Van Dijk has helped transform the Reds back into contenders for major honours and has already won the Champions League, as well as helping the club to their first ever Premier League title and their first top-flight title in 30 years.

In the 2020/21 season he missed the majority of the campaign due to a knee injury, but his return for 2021/22 has already had a catalysing impact on the squad.

In second is Sergio Ramos with a rating of 88. The Real Madrid legend left Santiago Bernabeu after 16 years this summer after failing to come to an agreement on a new contract.

He would go on to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Another PSG star is in joint third as Marquinhos is rated as 87 alongside Manchester City's Ruben Dias and Liverpool's pairing of Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Only one club has four representatives in the top 20 and that is Man City, with Dias joining Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker.

Liverpool and PSG have three entries each with Van Dijk, Robertson and Alexander-Arnold from the former and Ramos, Marquinhos and Achraf Hakimi from the latter.

The best-represented league is the Premier League, with nine players featuring in the top 20 from England's top flight.
