Jaap Stam’s managerial record: How has the Man Utd legend performed in the dugout?

Jaap Stam was known as a colossus of a centre-back when he played with Manchester United.
The Netherlands star featured for the Red Devils over the course of three seasons from 1998 until 2001 and in two of those was named as the Champions League’s outstanding defender.
He featured on a total of 127 occasions for Man Utd and scored one goal.

Indeed, legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson even admitted that he got rid of the defender too soon.
“When I think of disappointments, obviously Jaap Stam was always a disappointment to me, I made a bad decision there,” the Scotsman told MUTV.
Despite this blow, Stam moved into coaching, initially taking charge of Jong Ajax after spells as an assistant coach and defensive coach with the Amsterdam club.
From there, he moved to Reading and has spells as PEC Zwolle, Feyenoord and most recently MLS side FC Cincinnati.

Initially considered a bright young coach after his spells with Reading and PEC Zwolle, he has fallen on hard times.
His spell at Feyenoord ended after just 18 matches in charge, while his tenure with Cincinnati in MLS was little more than a disaster.
With the Ohio outfit, he picked up a meagre eight wins from 47 matches, losing 26 of those.
On 27 September, 2021, he was sacked with the club second from bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference.
“We believe a change in leadership is in the best interest of the club at this time, and a new General Manager will lead the search for a new Head Coach,” president Jeff Berding said in a statement.
“We are an ambitious club and we remain focused on achieving our goals, the first of which is making Cincinnati a championship city. We thank Jaap for everything he has done for FC Cincinnati during his time here, and we wish him the best as he can now head home to be with his family.”
Stam is therefore out of work and seeking his next opportunity.
