Man Utd transfers: Every signing and sale for 2021-22
Manchester United were one of the busiest clubs in the 2021 summer transfer window.
The Old Trafford side were intent on challenging for the Premier League title and the Champions League and as such serious investment was made in then-managerOle Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
However, they were completely inactive during the January transfer window.
So which players have arrived and which players were sold on over the course of the summer and winter transfer windows?
What players have Manchester United signed in 2021-22?
Jadon Sancho: £76.5m – from Borussia Dortmund
Raphael Varane: £36m – from Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo: £13.5m - from Juventus
Tom Heaton: Free Transfer from Aston Villa
Paul McShane: Undisclosed from Rochdale
Man Utd kicked off their transfer window with the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for a substantial amount of money.
Not only was the England international a long-term target for the Premier League giants but he also arrived as a supposedly proven talent in an area of the pitch that has seen Man Utd go through a number of players that weren’t quite up to the task of stepping up when it mattered.
Another problem area for Man Utd that needed to be addressed in the summer was in central defence, as Harry Maguire had had to make do with below-par defensive partners for some time.
In an attempt to fix this, the Old Trafford side swooped in for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and were able to sign him for a cut-down fee of just £36m due to the fact that he had an expiring contract.
Following the departures of Sergio Romeo and Andreas Pereira in the summer, Man Utd needed to make sure they had a new third or fourth-choice goalkeeper in the squad. As a result, Tom Heaton’s contract at Aston Villa was coming to an end and he agreed to join the club on a free transfer.
But the topping on top of the summer cake was Cristiano Ronaldo, who had spent the entire summer being linked with just about every major club.
However, in the most dramatic of fashions, Ronaldo was touted for a deadline day move to Manchester City, only for the story to quickly change on the day and instead the world saw the Portugal international announce his return to Man Utd.
After a very disappointing first half to the season during which Solskajer was sacked and replaced by interim manager Ralf Rangnick, United were tipped to return into the transfer market in January.
Much to the annoyance of fans, Man Utd did not sign a single player during the January transfer window.

Following the arrival of Ronaldo, it was inevitable that Man Utd would have to cut short one of their back-up forwards.
However, while Jesse Lingard had spent the summer being linked with an Old Trafford departure, it ended up being Daniel James who moved on after Leeds United offered a handsome fee for the Wales international.
The other departures during the summer were minor players and those sent out on loan.
Only one player was sold in the January window, Dillon Hoogeworf to Borussia Monchengladbach.
