What is Chelsea’s Champions League squad?
Chelsea won the Champions League for the second time in their history in May, overcoming Manchester City 1-0 in the final.
Thomas Tuchel’s side showed tremendous organisation and discipline to win the title last term and will start as one of the favourites this time around.
Certainly, they have been placed in a favourable Group H, in which they will tackle Zenit St Petersburg, Juventus and Malmo. They will be red-hot favourites to win that pool.
Over the course of the summer, they focused more on improving the quality of their squad instead of their numbers.
Romelu Lukaku has arrived for a club record fee from Inter and, of course, makes the Champions League squad, while Saul Niguez, who arrived at the last moment from Atletico Madrid, also makes the panel.
There are some more unexpected faces among the group, though. Centre-back Malang Sarr might not have expected to feature, with the defender accustomed to being a member of the club’s loan army, while Ross Barkley and Lewis Baker are two of the more peripheral players who will be involved.
Meanwhile, Trevoh Chalobah, who was highly impressive in pre-season and in the early weeks of the campaign, is also among the group.
