How much would Diaby cost Liverpool?
Liverpool may have kept their powder dry in the summer transfer window, but Jurgen Klopp knows that he’ll eventually have to make some serious signings to bolster his squad.
Although a number of key players have been signed up to new deals, two players that remain unattached to long-term contracts are Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
As such, transfer speculation has begun to build around the club over what strategies are in place to replace both forwards if contract extensions can’t be agreed.
According to Calciomercato, the Anfield club have already started planning for life without Mane or Salah, with Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby now sitting top of their shipping list for next summer.
But how good is the French winger and how much would he cost Liverpool to sign as a potential Mane or Salah replacement?
How good is Diaby?
Signed from a very young age by Leverkusen in 2019, Diaby is now in his third full season with the Bundesliga side and is developing into an exceptional winger.
In his first league campaign with the club he bagged five goals and five assists in 28 games. That then shot up to four goals and 12 assists in 32 games in the following Bundesliga campaign. And so far this season he’s already picked up three goals and an assist in six league games.
Despite only being 22 years of age, Diaby has already established himself as an impressive Bundesliga forward and will likely go on to get much, much better in the coming years ahead.
How much would he cost?
Leverkusen are one of the smartest clubs in Germany when it comes to playing the transfer window and they’ll undoubtedly be looking to pick up top value for Diaby when the time comes to sell him to a Premier League side such as Liverpool.
The player currently has a contract with the Bundesliga side that is set to run until 2025, which means Leverkusen will effectively be able to name their price if the Anfield side are serious about buying him.
As things currently stand, Diably is valued at €47 million and would likely go for that kind of fee if Liverpool tried to buy him next summer.
