Manchester United executive Ed Woodward has thrown his support behind current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following another disappointing result for the Red Devils against Everton.

On Saturday afternoon, Man Utd took the lead just before half-time, with Anthony Martial finishing a lovely move that involved some nice interplay between Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes.

United never really controlled the game, however, which led to Everton eventually equalising through Andros Townsend.

The game finished 1-1 and that means that Solskjaer's men have won just two of their last six fixtures in all competitions.

They have recently lost against Young Boys in the Champions League, Aston Villa in the Premier League, and were eliminated from the League Cup by West Ham.

Solskjaer is already under pressure despite the season being at an early stage, with many fans calling for him to be removed as boss.

Woodward, however, still believes the club are on the right track under the Norwegian.

“We significantly strengthened the squad over the summer, with the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton," he said after the Everton draw.

“These signings have demonstrated our continued ability to attract some of the world’s best footballers to Old Trafford, and our firm commitment to helping Ole deliver success on the pitch.

“While squad-building is a constant process, we are more confident than ever that we are on the right track."

Solskjaer's reaction

Man Utd have a plethora of talent in the final third, with Sancho and Ronaldo joining Marcus Rashford, Greenwood, Martial, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba.

Solskjaer isn't getting the most out of that group currently, but he insists performances will come.

“I’m very confident that we will get the best out of this squad," he said when asked if he is getting the best out of the squad.

“A lot has happened this month and we’ve had Raphael [Varane] and Jadon [Sancho] with us since August, and Cristiano [Ronaldo] since September.

“We’ve got loads to work on and we need to improve, we know that and I know that, but I do believe in this group of players and the coaching staff that I’ve got. So, the short answer is yes.

“I believe in these players, I believe in the coaching staff and I believe we have something going. The proof is in the pudding, we need results and you have to turn up.

“You can’t say ‘we did well against City and Tottenham last year’, we have to do it during the 90 minutes, whoever plays.

“That's the challenge because every game in the Champions League and Premier League is a big game against a good team and every game as Manchester United is a potential banana skin, as we're expected to win every one.”
