Milan midfielder Franck Kessie is one of a number of stars whose contracts will expire in June 2022 and it is only a matter of weeks before he is eligible to open discussions with other clubs.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs most hotly linked with the Ivory Coast international midfielder.

The 24-year-old has been an impressive performer with Milan this season, scoring two goals in 10 Serie A matches, while featuring four times in the Champions League.

Already capped more than 50 times for his country, he does not want for experience at the highest level.

And yet Milan are faced with the prospect of losing a player they signed for €23 million in 2019 for absolutely nothing.

Kessie talks stall

It is reported in Italy that contract negotiations have stalled between Kessie and Milan, with a significant rift between what the club have offered him and what he is demanding.

Milan’s latest offer was apparently a contract worth €6.5 million per year, with Kessie’s camp demanding morel like €9m.

That figure may prove too great for the San Siro club, but it would certainly not prove an obstacle for the likes of Liverpool or Paris Saint-Germain.

Spurs, meanwhile, may have hinted that they need to tighten their belts in the months to come, but the opportunity to sign a player of such a calibre for nothing may mean they are willing to take the hit on wages.

With so much interest in Kessie, it does not add up to a happy situation for Milan, yet they still have one thing going in their favour: the player remains happy in Italy and it is the agent who is pushing for the move.
