Five Arsenal players who could leave before January window closes
Arsenal were one of the biggest-spending clubs in world football during the summer but in the January transfer window they have moved to reduce the size of their squad.
Already, numerous players have been cut free from the Gunners, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sead Kolasinac and Pablo Mari all departing the club.
Before the January transfer deadline is up, more deals could be done, though.
Of course, all of these players will not leave Arsenal, but if the right bid comes in or the circumstances are right, these are the players who could go.
Bernd Leno
Goalkeeper Bernd Leno was a long-time No.1 at the Emirates Stadium, though he has fallen to second choice behind Aaron Ramsdale this season with no apparent hope of regaining his status as a first pick.
With only 18 months on his contract remaining, the clock is ticking for the club in terms of being able to recoup a sizeable transfer fee for the 29-year-old German.
If the right bid came in, he is a player who would be seen as dispensable.
Granit Xhaka
Roma wanted to sign Xhaka in the summer and the signs are that they are returning with renewed interest as January reaches its climax.
Arsenal could be open to a move, too. Xhaka has been involved in numerous on-filed controversies in recent times, and though he has won back the Gunners faithful once, he will find it harder to do again.
This is a deal that seems a long shot, though.
Arsenal already want an additional central midfielder to add to their ranks, although if they can sign Ruben Neves of Wolves, that could open the door to an unlikely deal.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Arsenal may be resigned to keeping their disgraced former captain, but he is a player they would like to offload before the end of the transfer window. The 32-year-old has 18 months left on his deal, but unless there is a major U-turn in both his attitude and his form, it is difficult to see him playing a big role under Mikel Arteta.
Just who might sign him, however, is debatable.
Alexandre Lacazette
Heading towards free agency in the summer, any bids for Lacazette would surely be welcomed by Arsenal.
Lacazette has been a consistent but unspectacular scorer for Arsenal throughout his time at the club, but with only three Premier League goals to his credit this season, it seems that it’s time for a change.
Eddie Nketiah
With just 51 Premier League minutes to his credit this season, Eddie Nketiah is a player who needs a change. There has been plenty of interest in the 22-year-old, who could leave the club on a loan deal, with the likes of Leeds interested in him.
Counting against his situation, though, is the uncertainty surrounding Arsenal’s other attacking options.
