Newcastle will beat Arsenal to Brazil star Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle are set to win the race for Lyon’s Brazil international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, with Arsenal among the clubs to miss out.
Guimaraes’ all-round performances in the heart of the OL midfield have been eye-catching this season. Not only has he shown a capacity to impress defensively, he has moved the ball forward quickly and effectively, ticking the key boxes for a Premier League midfield player.
Arsenal were the first club to move for the 24-year-old, but ultimately it is Newcastle’s riches that are set win the day.

Newcastle set to land Bruno Guimaraes
L’Equipe reports that the Premier League club tabled a €40 million (£33.5m) bid that is close to Lyon’s asking price, although what is not clear is the structure of the payments that Newcastle are proposing.
Previously, fellow Ligue 1 side Reims laughed off an approach from the Toon for Hugo Ekitike over what they claimed were unrealistic bonus payments.
Bruno Guimaraes’ representatives have yet to react to the news, but it has been suggested that the player could see his weekly salary quadruple into the region of €225,000 (£190,000). With such an offer on the table, it is unlikely that the player would take much convincing.
Newcastle, it appears, have acted more decisively than Arsenal in this case, with the Gunners having admitted earlier in the transfer window that they were actively pursuing a central midfielder.
The St James’ Park side, meanwhile, are seeking to strengthen every area of their team amidst a battle against relegation from the Premier League.
Recently taken over by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF), Newcastle are reckoned to be the richest club in the world, although they have made slow progress in the transfer window, only acquiring Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood from Burnley.
Bruno Guimaraes would represent something of a coup, particularly given Arsenal’s interests, but Newcastle will have to work hard to strengthen other areas of their squad before the end of the transfer window, too.
