Why Mbappe should join Liverpool and not Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappe’s future at Paris Saint-Germain remains firmly up in the air, with the striker’s contract expiring at the end of June, sending him towards free agency.
While Real Madrid are the favourites to sign the World Cup winner, he has previously expressed an affection for the Anfield club in the past, a feeling that does appears to be mutual.
Indeed, there is an argument that Mbappe would, in fact, be better off going to Liverpool than making the expected move to the Spanish capital.
Here are three reasons why a switch to Liverpool would be the smart move.
Stability
One major selling point for Liverpool is the sheer stability of the club. Manager Jurgen Klopp has been in place for more than six years and has built a team that is based on a well-established and proven style.
Admittedly, there have been hints that Klopp may consider stepping down from the post when his current deal expires in 2024, but until then, he is going nowhere.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have cycled through seven different managerial spells since Klopp took command at Anfield. That’s an average of more than one per year.
Style
Previously, Mbappe has admitted that he is a fan of Klopp’s playing style.
Speaking back in 2020, when the Reds were heading for their first Premier League title, Mbappe told the BBC: "Over the last two seasons, Liverpool have played some of the best football in Europe.
"Last season winning the Champions League and this season winning a league was strong, because they won the Premier League so comfortably.
"Their coach has built a strong team and next season I am sure they will be very competitive again."
Mbappe is tailor-made for Liverpool’s direct attacking style, which offers the opportunity for the forward players the chance to attack defences that are not set. Either out wide or through the centre, he could terrorise opponents in this brand of football.
Prestige
Real Madrid may be one of the biggest clubs in the world, but the Premier League is the place to be for the leading players.
Mbappe will find more kudos for tearing up defences in England than he will in a Spanish league that increasingly looks likely to be dominated by Madrid in the years to come.
Furthermore, he chances of winning the Champions League at Anfield would also be greater.
