Revealed: Ed Woodward’s earnings as Man Utd head for season of failure
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has been a controversial figure at Manchester United for years.
Woodward has overseen seen Man Utd’s demise from a European superpower to a side simply competing to make the Champions League, having taken over his current role in 2012. Indeed, he has been in the top operating role at Old Trafford since 2013, when CEO David Gill retired, coinciding with Sir Alex Ferguson stepping down from the club.
Having played a key role in the Glazers’ takeover of the club in 2007, he has been associated with Man Utd’s unpopular owners throughout his time with the team.
Ed Woodward's earnings
Despite the criticism he has faced, Woodward has always been richly rewarded for his role, despite Man Utd’s tumble from prominence.
Indeed, it has been announced that he scooped a salary of £2.92 million for the job he did last year.

Man Utd actually enjoyed one of their better seasons in recent years, finishing second in the Premier League to Manchester City, but they crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage while they also flopped in the final of the Europa League against Villarreal – a match they were widely expected to win.
Woodward had earned £3.09m the previous year, so there was a slight drop in his salary.
This wage puts Woodward higher on the salary scale at the club than midfielder Scott McTominay and right-back Diogo Dalot, though naturally is dwarfed by the biggest stars at Old Trafford. For example, Paul Pogba reportedly earns £15 annually, David de Gea earns nearly £20m per year while Cristiano Ronaldo is said to receive £26.5m – nearly 10 times as much as the club’s leading director.
Woodward will step down from his role on 1 February, which is a move that will be welcomed by many Man Utd supporters, not least because the clubs is experiencing another difficult season.
