Official: Spurs flop Ndombele leaves the club on loan
Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has departed the club on loan after two-and-a-half difficult seasons with the Premier League side.
Ndombele joined Tottenham from Lyon for a deal worth an initial €60 million plus potential bonus payments of €10m.
However, he has struggled to impress under successive managers and will not depart Spurs until the end of the season on a temporary basis back to Lyon. Previously, Paris Saint-Germain had been linked with a move, though they were unable to make space in their squad by offloading any of their myriad of excess midfielders.
Both clubs have confirmed Ndombele’s return to France, with Lyon indicating that they will pay €1.42m as a loan fee for the central midfielder.
On top of this, they have the opportunity to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the season for an undisclosed sum.
Lyon have also confirmed that they have added Romain Faivre from Brest for a fee of €15m. There is a potential €2m bonus attached to that deal, while 15% of any transfer gain made from the Parisian will be sent to the Breton club.
What Ndombele’s exit means for Spurs
With Ndombele leaving Tottenham, it clears a path for new additions to arrive. Spurs are set to announce the arrivals of Juventus pair Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski. While the former is expected to arrive on a permanent basis, the latter is expected to join up on a loan deal with a purchase option. The combined total for signing both would be in the region of €70m.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have the opportunity to further clear out their squad by offloading Dele Alli, who looks destined to join Crystal Palace before the deadline.
Unless there is a major turnaround, this will be regarded as a disappointing window for Tottenham, though at least with the exit of Ndombele, they have achieved something positive.
