Leeds struggler wants Barcelona return
Leeds United flop Junior Firpo has admitted that he would find it very difficult to say no if former team Barcelona were to try and re-sign him.
The left-back joined Barcelona in 2019 after impressing with Real Betis but never managed to nail down a place at Camp Nou.
He made 43 appearances and scored five goals during two years with the Blaugrana before being sold to Leeds last summer for €15 million plus add-ons.
However, Firpo has been something of a disaster at Leeds during his first season in the Premier League.
He has managed no goals and just one assist in 20 games for his new club and has regularly been exposed in an admittedly very-open Leeds defence.
Firpo’s future at Leeds past this season is already in doubt and he has been linked with a return to La Liga.
The 25-year-old admits that he would consider a return to both of his past two clubs.
What did Junior Firpo say?
“I would love to spend a lot of time here, but, well, in the end, the house always wins and I would like to return to Betis, obviously,” Firpo said.
“I didn’t even say no to Barça the first time and it would be very difficult to say no the second time, obviously.”
Firpo’s chances of leaving will increase massively if Leeds are relegated from the Premier League.
United were thrashed 4-0 at home by Tottenham on Saturday, a result that led to the sacking of manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Leeds are on a dreadful run of form and are now in 16th place in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are looking for a long-term replacement for left-back Jordi Alba, although a move for Junior Firpo seems very unlikely.
