Giroud and Abraham continue to make a mockery of Chelsea's broken attack
Most Chelsea fans would be forgiven for doing their best to forget this weekend’s football as quickly as possible.
For a start, their team were almost embarrassingly thrown out of the FA Cup on Saturday, when Plymouth took Thomas Tuchel’s side to extra time and then spared the London club’s blushes by missing a last-minute penalty.
The result will do little to alleviate the pressure on the Chelsea manager and his underperforming side, while star striker Romelu Lukaku continues to garner criticism each weekend for his poor goal return for the club.
Yet, as if that wasn’t bad enough, Chelsea fans that had hoped for some Italian football to take their mind off a tough day were then abruptly reminded of the kind of goalscorer the club had happily given up in the summer.

Giroud continues to shine for Milan
Indeed it was none other than former Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud who proved to be the hero for Milan when they faced their cross-city rivals Inter on Saturday. Despite going a goal down in the first half, Giroud then bagged a brace in the second half and won all three points for Stefano Pioli’s side.
To date, that now means that Giroud has bagged an impressive eight goals in just 21 games for the Italian giants since making the move to Italy for less than £1 million. And while that may not sound entirely impressive, it’s still as many goals as Lukaku has scored this season despite having played 600 minutes less football.
Regrets over Abraham and Giroud
If that wasn’t bad enough, Chelsea also have another former striker that continues to score goals for fun in Serie A this season. Alongside Giroud in the Italian top flight is Tammy Abraham, who has bagged an even more impressive 17 goals in 31 games for Roma.
In what should be seen as a grave mishap from the Chelsea recruitment department, it’s hard for fans of the London club to overlook the fact that the two strikers they sold this season have now scored 25 goals between them since the summer, while Tuchel’s own forwards - Lukaku, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz - have only been able to muster up 19 between them.
So much so, that if given the choice to have Giroud and Abraham or the aforementioned trio, Tuchel may in fact prefer the former over the out-of-form latter. And Chelsea fans would probably be inclined to agree.
