Klopp explains significance of Diaz signing and provides update on Carvalho pursuit
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has had his sy on the arrival of the club’s January transfer window signing Luis Diaz.
The winger made the move to Anfield in the final days of the transfer window after Liverpool paid no less than £40.5 million for him.
As such, that makes Diaz already one of Liverpool’s most expensive signings ever. And while Klopp urged patience with the forward, he could help but get excited about adding the Colombian talent to his team.
"We signed him because we like pretty much everything about him," said Klopp in a press conference on Friday.
"I have followed him for a while, not only since we played Porto twice (in the Champions League this season).
"He is an exceptional player. He has speed, the skillset and the character to have a really good career and we want him to have that career with us.
"Nowadays when you have 16 and 17-year-olds playing at the highest level, he maybe is a bit of a late bloomer but they bloom exceptionally well very often.
"I'm really happy we could get him in now. It's a special story so far. We have some players with special stories behind them and I like that. He is one of us now."
Will Liverpool still sign Carvalho?
Another player that Liverpool had hoped to bring to the club before the January transfer window shut was Fabio Carvalho from Fulham.
However, the Anfield side weren’t able to complete the deal in time and were forced to cancel their plans.
Yet, when asked about the club pursuing the talent with a pre-contract agreement between now and the summer, Klopp suggested that they would be crazy not to.
"I don't know. We will see. We are obviously still interested, it would be crazy if not,” said Klopp.
"It's at the moment not in our hands. (Fulham boss) Marco (Silva) said it all yesterday in his press conference.
"With these kind of deals, it was late before the transfer window closed again and it didn't work out. We will see what happens."
