Man City to offer Haaland huge deal – how will it compare to Ronaldo?
Manchester City are one of numerous teams involved in the pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
The Norway international star is set to depart the Bundesliga club in the summer, having grown frustrated with their attempts to make him decide his future early.
Numerous clubs are vying to sign the prodigious forward, whose scoring exploits have made him one of hottest tickets in world football.
Haaland has been publicly courted by Barcelona, but the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have all been very active in terms of jostling for position to capture the striker.
According to Todofichajes, Man City are about to step up their approach for him.
This echoes reports from January, which stated that the Etihad club are ready to go all out for the 21-year-old. If they do not sign him, they will then lean on winter addition Julian Alvarez, who is presently still at River Plate.
In order to secure Haaland, Man City are willing to offer him big wages. Indeed, they are ready to match his salary to that of top earner Kevin De Bruyne, who scoops £20 million per year.
What do the Premier League’s top earners make?
Such a figure would put Haaland right at the top of the Premier League pay scale from the very beginning.
He would be above, for example, Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling, who are City’s second highest earners, securing around £15.5m per year.
Chelsea’s top earner is Romelu Lukaku, who earns around £17m per year, while Liverpool’s best paid player is Virgil van Dijk at around £11.4m per year.
Indeed, only Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo scoops a bigger annual wage than De Bruyne at present.
Ronaldo is reported to be on a salary of £26.5m per year, with a contract that expires in 2023.
Haaland, though, would be on a longer-term deal than the veteran Portuguese, so the total value of his deal could well be worth more than the one Ronaldo is presently on at Manchester United.
